Business Blogging Etiquette

1. Connect Your Readers
Make introductions, and spend some time everyday maintaining a blogroll, providing links to your favourite blogs and websites, and do what you can to keep things with your readers interactive. Also consider using the trackback function on your blog software so that emails will notify any bloggers you mention on your blog.
2. Be Natural, Be Yourself.
As in any business dealing, or indeed life itself, being authentic scores a lot of points. If you?re not the type to let things hang in the open, that is ok ? as long as you stay genuine. Business blog gurus often give the tip of remembering the strength of the story, which is a great way to get readers attention. If storytelling isn?t your forte, you can use bits of commentary to alert readers.
3. Keep It Informal
Blogs are not the place to be overly-serious, which can lead readers to severe boredom. Imperfections are ok in the blog world, and an informal style works well. Don?t go too casual though, or get too personal. Yahoo?s blogging policy gets the gist of it: “Be respectful of your colleagues, get your facts straight, provide context to your argument, and engage in private feedback.”
4. Maintain, Maintain
To keep a blog healthy, you have to have a commitment to maintain it or it will, sadly, run out of steam like many blogs out there have done. A business blog may be one of the cheapest ways to promote your business, but what you save on cash you make up for your time. It?s a real job and needs careful planning and maintenance.
