Corporate Blogging and You

Working for a company? Are you writing your personal blog? Why not blog for the company?

Interesting concept but it’s not really that new. However, not everyone might be comfortable doing this and it can’t be helped. One must be able to weigh the rewards, risks and consequences of writing for your company blog. First and foremost, does your company even know what a blog is? If not, well, you could get them started on learning what it’s all about. You could say that you are experimenting with a new set of blog tools and you could show the people in charge of Public Relations that you could reach people through a company blog. Or maybe have a blog-like section on the company site.

What to blog? What to blog?

That’s where the somewhat tricky part comes in. Of course you can’t simply disclose all those juicy details from a deal you just made or personal information of the staff and management team. There has to be a set of guidelines in order to protect your company and your co-workers and your bosses, of course.

Why not just go for press releases?

Maybe because press releases can sound too bland? Yes, there’s that. Also, you can’t help but admit that there is something about knowing that there is a person behind a blog. You can really say that you are listening to someone sharing a story when you are reading a blog. Sometimes, press releases are too general that they become too much ‘marketing buzz’ while blogs are able to do that too, it’s more social in the way that you could ‘connect’ to others.

Do you dare?

Are you brave enough to take on this challenge? If you are, good luck and have fun! Don’t forget that you are not just writing for your company. You are still an individual after all and you’re simply telling a story from that perspective. ;)
