IsulongSEOPH and Then Some

There was a contest called IsulongSEO in the Philippines, a venue for bloggers, webmasters and search engine optimization enthusiasts to take part in promoting search engine optimization in the country. It is really interesting because there was quite a number of bloggers who participated in the contest and there’s actually still an on-going raffle of sorts.
You don’t have to be part of the contest in order to keep track of what went on because there are different blog entries on the matter and, in particular, you could read Marc Macalua’s blog for the details. Anyhow, what you’d see from the different opinions all over the blogosphere is that there are people who appreciate the endeavors of these bloggers, webmasters and SEO enthusiasts. Maybe a lot of those who participated are bloggers because they are the ones who are really actively making a lot of content on the ‘Net.
In one of Macalua’s posts, he wrote about a sponsor who backed out because it was a contest of spammers and jammers. Hmmm. Weird. The terms were spammers and jammers. Interesting choice of words. And from the looks of the comments on Macalua’s blog, the sponsor is not quite well-liked in the blogosphere due to certain practices and actions he has done in the past (including not paying his employees their salaries). In any case, it looks like there’s a big rift between JNB Web Promotion and the people on the SEO Philippines Mailing List, especially after this.
The comment of John Bertrand on Macalua’s blog seems absurd: “Did you know that 9 out of the top 10 entries are WordPress Blogs.” So what? If those blogs have content that are useful, informative or entertaining (or maybe even recognized as truly awesome blogs), they wouldn’t rank so high! There are professional bloggers who are definitely skilled in so many ways that to somehow sound a bit dismissive would be unprofessional of John Bertrand. There are also sites that use WordPress as the CMS of choice because of the ease of use.
Maybe John Bertrand has something personal against Macalua or anyone in the mailing list. However, his words seem like those of someone sourgraping.
