Are you trying to figure out how your blog could do better? You want to know how your blog is faring in terms of search engine optimization? Well, look no further than Google! They have Google Analytics for us bloggers who are consciously improving the way we interact with the rest of the blogosphere and the online world.
Getting a Google Analytics account
Are you using any of Google’s services? If not, it’s time to sign up for this one! It’s a free sign up that you would not regret, considering how detailed the reports could be.
What’s in store for you if you get yourself a Google Analytics account?
You see different reports. One of them would list down the keywords that have led others to your site. Another is how many new visitors you get. You could also view a map with pointers to the different cities which have readers of your site. (That is really interesting. The Internet really could be said to bridge gaps and geographic boundaries. Awesome!) You could also see which pages are the entry points and the exit points of your site. There are so many kinds of reports and to list them all would be overwhelming!
it would take quite a while to learn to maximize this tool. But for the moment, let’s focus on the kind of statistics that are shown on Google Analytics. You could actually see the sites, which might include blogs, that are sources of referrals to your own site. That’s something good. You might be a part of some network of bloggers and the links from the member blogs show up as referrals. In any case, you could see a list of those top referrers.
The keywords summary is something really nifty. It shows you what keywords are used to reach your site. It could be the name of your blog por se. It could also be one of the topics that you write about. It really varies. You better observe it on a day to day basis so that you know what is really the trend.
There’s so much more to learn about Google Analytics and how it is relevant for us bloggers. If you want to share any thoughts on the matter, please feel free to drop a line.
