Hi, I am a Professional Blogger, Not a Bum

There has been a general perception that writers do not really have a job. It must be because they are generally seen bumming around or sitting on the porch. It must be that they are not really productive. How about bloggers? Professional bloggers sometimes just stay in cafes and lounge. Or maybe not.
What I am talking about here is the group of professional bloggers who are doing it full-time. You know that there are those who practice a particular profession and blog about it professionally. However, there are also those who blog full-time and basically that’s all day do the workday, so to speak.
You might know a couple of professional bloggers who are like this. Maybe you are one of them. Do you get weird looks from people you meet? You know, when you introduce yourself. “Hi, I am Bob.” Then your new acquaintance will go “What kind of job do you have?” or maybe “What company you work for?” If you are affiliated with a blog network, you might say you are with a particular media company and when you start getting into the details, especially the part wherein you are asked about your work hours, how flexible it is, that you can work anywhere… Sometimes people have this idea that you are just bumming around. Don’t feel bad when you get all those snotty looks! Your job is as legit as theirs. Well, as long as you know you’re not plagiarizing or splogging that is!
It must be the stigma that comes with writers that could affect the way people perceive your job. In any case, things will probably look better as soon as you get major blogging breaks, like maybe writing for a popular or influential blog. Maybe when they could search for your name immediately, they’d get to read all those blog entries you’ve written and they could understand what your job is like. You are as creative and smart as everyone else. And maybe even more.
