Is Your WordPress Hacked?

hackedAccording to Lorelle on WordPress, a WordPress news blog, there is an attack on older versions of WordPress going on. To avert the attack the easiest thing to do is of course upgrade to the new version. (Go ahead, I won’t mind if you stop reading this post right now. Just finish it after you’ve updated your blog.) Okay. SO maybe you don’t really have to hurry since this is old news (Yes you should have updated your blog last September!). So what this means is that if you still have WordPress 2.8.3 version and lower then your blog is probably already affected.

To know for certain if your blog is affected check if your site has weird additions to the permalink and if you have a backdoor created by a mysterious new Administrator.

To clean up your blog, in case you have been hacked, export ALL your content in XML format and totally reset your entire WordPress installation. Import back your XML backup after you’ve cleaned everything out. This should bring back all your content including images and post comments.

To avert such problems again, make sure you always check on WordPress updates and update to newer versions when they ask you to!
