Ever thought of getting a blog editor? Does the thought of it go against your principles?
Editing is an essential skill for all who aspire to be writers. These days, because of blogging, there is a proliferation of written material from different kinds of people. Each of us has different skills and backgrounds. Some of us might not even be native speakers of the language we choose in blogging. It’s just that we decide to choose particular languages in blogging so we could get out message across our target audience. In business blogging, you even have extra jargon involved because of the business terms. Same thing goes for tech blogging. But here’s also another perspective: You could try to get your point across to other people who don’t normally read such topics.
If you want to try doing that, you might as well consider getting someone’s help. You might have a particular bias already so you might not see a particular perspective. Your language might end up as too much jargon. As such, you need to go over your blog entry before you post it or click the publish button. (Aren’t you glad that blogging apps and blogging services allow us to have drafts?)
Editing is not just about the sentence patterns that you use or if you are consistent with the tenses of the verbs. You also take into consideration who you are talking to and who you are speaking as. The thing with blogging is that sometimes we just let ourselves to become lax sometimes. That is not essentially bad because we’d like to make sure our fellow bloggers, and those who read our blogs would know who we really are. It’s just that sometimes we already are saying things that don’t make sense because we type too fast for own good and more importantly for the readers’ sake. Don’t hurry a lot when you write your blog entry. It could cost you more in terms of clarity.
